The Cultural app is designed with Augmented Reality to encourage more international students to explore local cultures by completing tasks based on different topics. Using AR function is beneficial for users to interact with reality and their ongoing tasks.
There are many international students who come to Australia after they pass the language test. But they still feel anxious when they talk with local people. It is due to the big gap between their background culture and Australian local culture. Those international students are afraid of talking to others as they do not want to offend others by misunderstanding the culture. I was inspired by how Pokemon go encourages users to explore different locations and complete the task on the game.
My design concept is to provide an app to encourage international students to explore local culture by starting from their interesting topics. They will be more confident and more willing to do the task as it is in their interests. Starting from small and divided tasks can help users to step further more effectively.

I followed the double diamond model in my design process. After I discover the general problems of my users meet. I did some interviews to narrow down the specific pain points they have in daily life. After doing research, I did a few interviews with my target users. Then I came up my design concepts based on the research and interviews.
I’ve visualized the findings by using user journey map and persona after interviews.
